Inner Landscapes

Nikki De Marco

This exhibition is how Alkemi Atelier started. As part of Nikki’s MA Ed (Artist teacher Practice) she had to create and exhibit a body of work. After searching for a space, Dale Senter offered her an unused space which she quickly transformed into a gallery for her exhibition, Inner Landscapes.

An exhibition of a body of process-driven work which took place over several months as a practical investigation for supporting the discovery of my authentic identity.

Using painting and drawing materials, the work embodies the emotional landscape of my inner world and my fractured identity. Its intention is to reveal truthful moments of discovery and existence in an honest and authentic way through the focus on the process and removing the barrier of a need to create outcomes.”

Inner Landscapes’ presents an ongoing journey of self-examination, presenting a body of exploratory works which focus on process as a means for authentic discovery.

Experiments and observations express an inner landscape, connecting to a love for nature through the filtering of elements into abstracted shapes. Divorced from their environment these fragments gain their own identities and are used to navigate the bigger picture. Besides paint, collage is used to encourage playfulness, severing notions of

permanence, and altering the dialogue through endless compositional possibilities.Tensions are felt through the many contrasts; figuration and abstraction, intention and chance, structure and experimentation, observation and imagination
